Tōtika safety protocols
How our safety system works in practice
Tōtika prequalification is the baseline, not the whole story. This is what our safety system looks like on your site, every day.
Risk assessment before every job
Every task begins with a documented assessment of tree condition, failure risk, services, access, ground conditions and public exposure.
Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSP)
A written SSSP is prepared for each site and submitted before mobilisation, covering hazards, controls, exclusion zones and emergency procedures.
NZQA qualified, experienced crews who still climb
Work is led by qualified arborists with 20+ years of experience. Our senior people are in the tree, not just signing the paperwork.
Safe work methods
Sectional dismantling, rigging and controlled lowering are used wherever a free fell would put people, structures or services at risk.
Own plant and equipment controls
Owned trucks, chippers, excavators and grinders are maintained on schedule with pre-start checks and operator competency records.
Worker engagement, pre-starts and toolbox talks
Daily pre-start briefings and regular toolbox talks keep the crew engaged in hazard identification and control on the day.
Incident reporting and continuous improvement
Near misses and incidents are reported, investigated and closed out, with lessons fed back into our procedures and briefings.
$10M public liability alongside Tōtika systems
Our insurance sits behind a live safety system — prequalification and cover working together, not one substituting for the other.
Trade support
Supporting other arborist companies
When your programme outgrows your crew, we provide overflow capacity and skilled climbing support under your brand and site controls.
- Overflow crews for peak workload, storm events and tight deadlines
- Skilled climbing support for complex removals and technical rigging
- Plant hire with operator — chipper, excavator, tipper and stump grinder
- Our own Tōtika prequalification, insurance and safety documentation
- Discreet, professional conduct on your client's site
- Flexible engagement — day rate, job rate or scheduled support
How we work
A five-step process built for programme work
- 01
Enquiry & scope review
We take your scope, drawings or asset list and confirm the constraints — access, services, trading hours, protected trees and consent requirements.
- 02
Site assessment by a qualified arborist
An NZQA qualified arborist attends site, assesses tree condition and risk, and confirms the safest work method for the environment.
- 03
Written quote & safety documentation
You receive a clear written quote with methodology, plus SSSP, risk assessment, insurance certificates and traffic management where required.
- 04
Delivery by our own crews and plant
Pre-start briefing, exclusion zones established, controlled dismantling and lowering, our own trucks, chippers and grinders on site.
- 05
Sign-off & completion record
Site cleaned to a professional standard, walk-through with your representative, and completion records with photos issued for your files.
